Autumn

Autumn arrived quickly this year -- and cold.  Days can be brisk and beautiful if you're sitting in the sun and there's no wind (this is a windy town), but the nights are bitter.  The problem, maybe, is not that the nighttime temperatures are low (they're in the 50s) but that we haven't had a chance to adjust gradually to the change of weather.

This locust tree is changing beautifully, and the yellow leaves are far more splendid than they appear in the photo.

My favorite tree is just beginning to change, so the leaves are scraggly.  The rosebush in the foreground has the two last roses of the year hanging on for dear life.

Our activities director brings in her new puppy, Winter, every day.  She's made herself at home and keeps us entertained.  She's half German shepherd and half Chihuahua.  (You'll be glad to know that the German shepherd was the mother.)

And then there's Donald, the Casa Real Flasher, who pees outside every day.  When the administrator told him, "Donald, you can't pee outside," he answered, "Like hell I can't.  Been doin' it for years."  He's been here for over 13 years.
